Festival

The 2nd Annual Maine African Film Festival will begin on Tuesday, April 6th with an Opening Night Celebration and Art Exhibition and end on Saturday, April 10th with a celebration of African music and food.  All MAFF movies and associated events are open to the general public.  The majority of the films to be shown at the 2010 Maine African Film Festival have been selected through the New York African Film Festival’s (NYAFF) Traveling Series.

In our increasingly diverse society, MAFF is committed to using African-themed films to accomplish the following goals:

  • Develop knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the richness, complexity and diversity of African peoples and their cultures;
  • Promote cultural literacy, tolerance and diversity by bridging the divide between post-colonial African culture and the American public through the art of film;
  • Build our community by bringing people together to view African-themed films, meet established and rising African filmmakers, participate in after-film discussions, and debate issues of personal, local and global significance in an open, tolerant environment; and
  • Provide ongoing cultural education by allocating a percentage of total revenue to fund the MAFF Museum Tour program benefitting children in underserved and rural communities throughout Southern Maine.

Tickets may be purchased at the door, or you can purchase a block of tickets online through the Nickelodeon Cinemas.
